# Distributed Java Applications

Java provides a standardized way to enable interactions between distributed applications and disparate information sources.
It provides framework for development of distributed applications and is one of the leading platform for the deployment of service oriented architecture (SOA) based applications using web services.
Java applications can be divided into following application tiers.
- Client-tier components run on the client machine.
- Web-tier components run on the Java server.
- Business-tier components run on the Java server.
- Enterprise information system (EIS)-tier software runs on the EIS server.
Above architecture diagram depicts high-level distributed application architecture layers.
It uses a distributed multi tiered application model for enterprise applications where application logic is divided into components according to function, and the various application components that make up a Java application are installed on different machines depending on the tier in the multi-tiered Java environment to which the application component belongs.
Since Java-based applications are designed to work together, the enterprise-wide adoption of Java makes it easier to create seamless computing environments. This reduces costs for companies already integrating their distributed systems and processes and enables more businesses to achieve the benefits of business integration.
