# Spry JavaScript Framework

The Spry Framework is an open source Ajax framework developed by Adobe Systems which is used in the construction of rich Internet applications. Unlike other pure JavaScript frameworks, Spry is geared towards web designers. The Spry framework incorporates XML, JSON or HTML data into pages using HTML, CSS and a minimal amount of JavaScript, without the need for refreshing the entire page.
The Spry framework is HTML-centric, and easy to perform for users with a basic understanding of HTML, CSS and a minimum JavaScript. It is directly integrated into System’s Dreamweaver CS3. Spry uses Google’s Xpath JavaScript library to convert XML into JavaScript objects. It can handle XML, HTML and JSON data.
**The Spry framework broadly consists of:**
- Spry Effects – animation effects like blind, fade, grow, highlight, shake, slide and squish.
- Spry Data – data binding to HTML markup using minimal code or proprietary markup.
At e-Zest, we use Spry that provides easy to create and style widgets, providing advanced page elements for end users. The framework was designed such that the JavaScript is minimal and markup is easy. The Spry framework can be used by everyone who is authoring for the web in their tool of choice.
Though the basic problem is that many were involved in creating rich interfaces, they were not knowing how to get started with Ajax. The prospect of Ajax frameworks is in such a way that many of them were more oriented to the skills of a programmer and were focused on application development. At e-Zest, Spry is extensively used because it is extremely “HTML-centric” to support the designers and to include basic interactivity to their page designs. With Spry, we simply add our HTML with dynamic data.
Adobe Systems has released the Spry Framework for AJAX to enhance the Adobe Engagement Platform and promote the development of pleasant experiences. As Spry is HTML-centric, so it enables Web designers to use their existing skills to develop rich pages with JavaScript and XML without having to learn new languages or select a complete-programming model. We use Adobe’s two open-source libraries to help developers bridge Adobe Flash and Flex technology with the recent AJAX style of development.
e-Zest specifically targets at Web design group’s need for a lightweight framework and henceforth we use Spry framework.
Moreover, developers here have experienced that Spry is remarkably flexible and can be used in conjunction with other AJAX frameworks or with the Flash family of products.
